Football National League (FNL) is a professional soccer league in Russia, which includes two divisions (FNL-1 and FNL-2). Previously, the divisions were called First League and Second League. All matches are played according to the rules of the FNL Championship and international soccer rules from IFAB.
In the first division there are 20 teams, which spend 38 rounds (2 games against each other). According to the results of the tournament the two best teams qualify directly for the Russian Premier League (RPL), while the third and fourth teams play a tiebreaker against the 13th and 14th RPL teams for the right to play in the Premier League next season. The 4 worst teams are relegated to the second division.
There are 76 teams in the second division, which are divided into 4 groups. Group winners receive a direct ticket to the first division. The first and second divisions take part in the Cup of Russia.
