There is not much time left before the start of the 2024 Olympics, but the debate in the sports community is not subsiding. Some believe that Russia should participate in the Games, while others express the opposite opinion: “participation of our national team under discriminatory conditions is unacceptable.
Each sports federation in our country has its own opinion. For example, Russian rowers refused to take part in the qualifying competitions and, consequently, refused to participate in the Olympics. On the contrary, the Russian Tennis Federation (FTR) is proud of the achievements of Russian athletes and supports their participation in major international competitions.
Recall, the IOC announced the criteria for Russian and Belarusian athletes to be admitted to the Games back in December 2023. Athletes will perform under a neutral flag and will not be admitted to the parade of athletes at the opening ceremony.
In team events, athletes will not perform at all. Nor will those who support the SMO, including support staff. All paraphernalia, symbols of Russia and Belarus (anthem, flag, national colors, etc.) will not and should not be displayed at the games. Coaches and sports officials will also not be allowed to participate and only a doctor or technical staff will be able to assist the athlete.
In addition, athletes must avoid interviews during and after the Olympics on the topic of national committees, national symbols, the SMO and everything related to it. The Ukrainian Olympic Committee additionally requires that all athletes sign a waiver to participate in the 2024 World Friendship Games.
