FIFA World Cup 2022 is an international soccer competition under the auspices of FIFA, the finals of which will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18, 2022. The tournament is the 22nd of its kind and will be held for the first time in the Middle East.
FIFA World Cup is a multi-stage tournament in which the national teams of 211 countries participate. In the first stage, teams must qualify in their Confederation.

The number of teams that have the right to go to the final part of the World Cup depends on the FIFA quotas distributed. For example, there are 13 teams from UEFA, 5 from Africa and 4 + 1 from South America (tiebreaks).
In the final part of the tournament there are 32 teams divided into 8 groups of 4 teams in each group. The top two teams from a group advance to the playoffs and the two worst teams are eliminated.
Each playoff round consists of one match, so in case of a draw an extra time is scheduled (two halves of 15 minutes). If there is no winner even in extra time, a penalty shootout will decide the outcome of the match.
The winner of the tournament receives a 6-kg cup made of 18-carat gold (750 proof or 75% pure gold). In addition, the champion also receives a cash prize of $50 million.
The final part of the tournament gives four individual awards (top scorer, best player of the tournament, best goalkeeper and best young player) and two team awards (Fair Play Award and Spectacular Game Award).
The most decorated team at the World Cup is Brazil (5 titles). Brazil holds another record, it has never missed the final part of the World Cup (participated 22 times), i.e. 100% result.
Italy and Germany have each won the World Cup four times. The tournament in Qatar could be a historic event, as the “German machine” can repeat the achievement of the Brazilians. The confrontation between two of the best players in the world: Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will be interesting. Each of them has the last chance to win the main soccer trophy.
Team Russia has not won the World Cup, but two players of our team have written their names in gold letters in the history of the world tournament. They are goalkeeper Lev Yashin (his name is awarded for the best goalkeeper) and Oleg Salenko (top scorer in one match). Oleg scored 5 goals in one match for Cameroon in 1994.
