World Champion 2024 – Czech Republic (7th title)
Ice Hockey World Championship 2024 (WC 2024) is the 87th Ice Hockey World Championship, which will be held from May 10 to May 26, 2024 in the Czech Republic. The games of Group A will be held in Ostrava, and Group B — in Prague. The official slogan of the tournament is “Heart of the game”.
16 strongest national teams will traditionally come to the Ice Hockey World Championship 2024, which will be divided into 2 groups. In the group stage, teams play according to the “each with each” system, where they receive points depending on the results of the match (a victory in regular time – 3 points, a victory in overtime or a shootout – 2 points, 1 point – for a defeat in overtime, 0 points – for a loss in regular time).
The best four of each group will advance to the playoff round (quarterfinals). The worst 2nd teams (ranked 8th) are eliminated in the first division of the 2025 World Championship. Each playoff round consists of one match, and the winner is decided in regulation time (3 halves of 20 minutes), overtime (5 minutes in a 3+1 formation before the golden goal), and if necessary, in a shootout.
The world champion receives the IIHF Silver cup, 1200 rating points and a cash prize from an international organization. Also, at the end of the tournament, the best players in various categories are appointed, such as the best striker, defender, goalkeeper and MVP (most valuable player).
The Russian national team and the Belarusian national team will not be able to participate in the Ice Hockey World Championship 2024 due to the suspension of membership in the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF.
Logo and Slogan
On April 11, 2023, the organizing committee of the Ice Hockey World Championship 2024 presented the official logo of the upcoming championship. Petr Brzyza, President of the Organizing Committee, believes that the presented logo is a source of inspiration for the entire championship:
“The puck is the physical heart of hockey, and figuratively speaking, the same applies to the fans and their emotions. The logo is a combination of the puck and every possible emotion associated with hockey”
The puck, the players, the fans, the Czech Republic – all of these represent the beating heart of hockey during the Ice Hockey World Championship 2024. These words are reflected in the slogan “Heart of the game”.
Mascots WC 2024
The official mascots of the Ice Hockey World Championship 2024 in Prague and Ostrava will be rabbits named Bob and Bobek, who previously represented the World Championship in 2015. The mascots’ jerseys will feature the numbers 20 and 24, which represent the year of the tournament.
Bok and Bobek is an iconic short cartoon in the Czech Republic that describes the adventures of two rabbits. The cartoon has been filmed since 1978 (91 episodes in total).
