Champions League 2023-2024 is the 69th season of UEFA’s most prestigious European soccer tournament. The tournament will feature 78 of the best teams in Europe (excluding teams from Liechtenstein and Russia). In the main stage of the tournament (group stage) 32 clubs will take part (8 groups of 4 teams each).

All matches in the tournament are played according to the tournament regulations and the official rules of the International Football Association Board IFAB. For a win in a match a team can earn 3 points, for a draw 1 point. A defeat in a match will not earn any points.

At the group stage teams will play only 6 games, 2 matches with each opponent in a round robin system. The teams, which at the end of the matches will take the 1st and 2nd place in the group, go to the play-off round (1/8 finals). The team that will take the third place will qualify for the 1/16 Europa League. Fourth places are eliminated from the tournament.

From the 70th season, UEFA will introduce a new tournament format using the Swiss system. Instead of a group round, teams will play 10 matches in a single league, with the top eight teams advancing to the play-off round. Teams ranked 9th through 24th will play an additional playoff round for the right to play in the 1/8 finals.

The playoff round consists of two matches (home/away). The team that scores more goals against the opponent will advance to the next round. The final match consists of one match, which takes place on a neutral field, in one of the stadiums of Europe.

The winner of the tournament is awarded with a silver amphora with gold plating inside. The cup is 73.5 cm high and weighs 7.5 kg. The names of all the clubs that have won the Champions League are engraved on the back of the trophy. In addition, the winner of the tournament receives a substantial cash prize from UEFA and the right to play in the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

The most prominent representatives of the UEFA Champions League are the two Spanish clubs from Madrid. Real Madrid has won the trophy 14 times, while Atletico has lost it 3 times in the final. If the first club can be considered the most successful finalist, the second team is the opposite – the loser of the final wpml unsure
