Calendar and match results

UEFA Conference League 2024-2025 is the 4th season of the UEFA-affiliated European international soccer tournament, which will run from July 11, 2024 to May 28, 2025. This season the tournament will be played in a new format based on the “Swiss system”.

The new format provides for the elimination of the group stage and the participation of 36 teams in a single league where each team will play 6 matches against different level opponents. The teams ranked from 1st to 8th place will go directly to the 1/8 finals, and the teams ranked from 9th to 24th place will get to the 1/16 finals.

The play-offs will take place in the format of two-match confrontations (home and away), and the winner will be the team that scores the most goals in the sum of the two meetings. In case of a draw, extra time (two halves of 15 minutes) and, if necessary, a penalty shootout will be scheduled.

Interesting fact! Unlike the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, the teams will play 6 matches in the group stage instead of 8. We assume that this is due to viewer interest and the broadcasting schedule. It is also possible that this format will become an example for the older “brothers” to avoid overloading the calendar, especially in January.

The 2024-2025 UEFA Conference League final will take place at the Wrocław Stadium in Poland on May 28, 2025. The winner will receive a trophy, substantial prize money and a direct entry to the UEFA Europa League for the following season.

The tournament has been held since 2021 and more than 160 European teams take part in it every year. Russian clubs participated only in the 2021/2022 season, finishing at the stage of the third qualifying round.

According to last season’s statistics, the Conference League matches attract half as many spectators as the Europa League. The tournament is also inferior in terms of spectacle – the number of goals is 7% lower on average. Surveys show that the majority of Russian TV viewers start actively following the Conference League only from the play-off stage.

Russian clubs will not take part in the current draw, as they have been suspended from the competition by FIFA and UEFA since February 28, 2022.
